Behind Eddie Von Walt: a game with me in every corner

Eddie Von Walt and the Infinite Bulb is a hands-only VR roguelike for Meta Quest: you serve drinks in a 1984 bar and defend it from a storm of electric cubes. This is the story of how it was born, and how much of me is inside it.

The stories

I've always dreamed of making a video game. As a kid, my passion was writing stories, one after another. Some of them were pretty weird, but I wanted every single one to have some depth.

The counter

Before UluP Studio, at 19, I had already been working as a barista for three years. Coffees, cappuccinos, trays to carry. It's a job that taught me a lot about life, but over time it became incredibly stressful: long shifts, people after people, and I always had to rush, to hurry up.

The fuse box

In May this year, after creating and then "destroying" UluP Project, the thing that came before UluP Spaces, I started out as an apprentice electrician. I threw myself into studying, I was really interested. It's a fascinating job, but over the summer I decided to work full time on UluP Studio: that's when UluP Focus, UluP Spaces, UluP Desktop, UluP Life, the MCP integration (UluPy) and UluP Spatial came to life.

1984

Then I went back to work, this time in a call center, because you have to make a living. And I thought about putting everything that happened this year into a game: my stories, the jobs I've done, and my huge passion for Michael Jackson and Prince.

That's why I picked 1984: for the music, for the way people dressed, for the whole atmosphere. I'm 20, but it feels like that era is mine.

Eddie

That's how Eddie Von Walt and the Infinite Bulb was born, and it's still being born. A barista, an electrician, an infinite light bulb. It's a game with me in every corner.

The funny thing is that I've written a story three chapters long, with an ending I'd love to bring into the game. We'll see how it goes.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who has tried the Early Access, and to everyone who will buy the game in the future. Every day I work on features, settings and enemies, and I keep writing the story.

So far, it's the most creative thing I've ever made.

The Early Access is on Meta Quest Store and SideQuest. Everything about the game is on the Von Walt page.

*Eddie Von Walt and the Infinite Bulb is in Early Access for Meta Quest: free during Early Access, 5€ at the final release.*
